Apps for Smartphone And Tablet- Information for Authors

IS THIS PRODUCT RIGHT FOR YOU?

  • An app can help your readers practice a skill as part of their daily life.  Is there one simple practice your book advocates in particular, that we could turn into an app?
  • There needs to be some interactive element. Can we make any part of your book interactive?

DEADLINE

  • Shortly after Author Day:  Agree on general concept, and begin sending preliminary materials so we can discuss feasibility with programmers.
  • Three months before Pub Date:    Submit all final materials.

INPUTS

The collaborative process will vary depending on the app in question.   Decide this together after the concept is agreed upon.

EXAMPLES (Click on green links to check them out.)

  • Eat That Frog.  This app is one our author Brian Tracy produced himself, (BK didn’t produce it) but it has done well, and is worth checking out as an example.
  • This is an app called “Repacking Journal” we produced with our author Richard Leider, which helps you plan a change in life direction:

BUDGET & CONTACT

At this time, Berrett Koehler only makes apps with $2,000 - $5,000 production costs.   In certain circumstances, we may collaborate with authors financially to produce more elaborate apps.

PRICING

To this date, we have only created free apps with the intention of using them to market the book.  If we ever created a paid app, it would likely cost one or two dollars, and the royalty agreement would be the same as that of other digital products.

OUTCOMES

It’s difficult to tell, since we have only produced two apps to date.   We are eager to look for new opportunities to pioneer in this area.
