John Lockard is chief operating officer and deputy to the president and CEO of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, a $32 billion, 70,000-person business unit. Lockard joined Boeing in 2000 after retiring as a vice admiral with 36 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he served in numerous operational assignments, includ- ing combat operations flying from Navy carriers. He attended the Naval War College, commanded two aviation squadrons, was the executive officer of an aircraft carrier, and served as the Navy F/A-18 program manager before being selected for flag rank in 1991. He held several flag rank assignments before assuming command of the Naval Air Systems Command in 1995. He is a highly decorated veteran and holds a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. He is chairman of the Board of Directors of the Navy Federal Credit Union, the world’s largest credit union, with more than $40 billion in assets. In 2007, the Navy League of the United States presented him with one of its highest honors, the Admiral Arleigh Burke Leadership Award.
